02 November 2017: CarillionAmey attend Defence Industry Charitable Dinner in aid of SSAFA

We were honoured to host a table at the annual Defence Industry Dinner in support of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, with colleagues from Defence Infrastructure Organisation and the Armed Forces.

The prestigious event presents an opportunity to learn more about the work SSAFA do while demonstrating the significant support that SSAFA receives from the Defence industry. The Defence industry has given SSAFA essential support which has enabled them in turn to give vital support to Armed Forces personnel and their families.

Lieutenant General Sir Gary Coward KBE CB, General Sir Gordon Messenger KCB DSO* OBE ADC, Vice Chief of Defence Staff, and Wing Commander Kirsty Bushall, National Vice Chairman of SSAFA all spoke at the event. The evening’s keynote speech discussed the need for industry partners, like us, to support the Ministry of Defence by delivering cost innovation, and how the government are supporting such initiatives through the Defence Innovation Initiative, the Defence and Security Accelerator and the Defence Innovation Fund.

We are invited to these events in recognition of the work we do for the charity. So far we have raised a total of £167,613.51 which is directed towards their mentoring scheme. This provides support for wounded, injured and sick personnel who are leaving the Services and making a transition back in to civilian life. It costs £500 to train a SSAFA mentor, and thanks to our staff, we’ve been able to fund over 300 of them to gain the skills they need to offer the critical support SSAFA provides.
