Last week, Stuart Jones, our Communications and Customer Service Director, and Laura Sinnott, our Social Media and Stakeholder Manager, were invited to a prestigious event hosted at the Tower of London, by our corporate charity partner, SSAFA.
The event was held to raise awareness of SSAFA’s mentoring programme, a scheme we are really proud to support, that provides specialist mentoring services for ex-military personnel and their families who are struggling to make the transition from military to civilian life.
Guest speakers on the night included Lieutenant General Sir Gary Coward KBE CB, National Chairman of SSAFA and General Sir Nicholas Houghton GCB CBE ADC Gen, Constable of the Tower who spoke about the mentoring programme and the emotional and practical support it gives to those who are settling into their new lives.
Stuart and Laura were honoured to attend the event on behalf of CarillionAmey and were personally thanked by the guest speakers for the ongoing support we continue to provide to the programme. Laura said “It was a wonderful evening and very humbling to hear how our fundraising efforts are helping to support this vital service.”
Stuart added “Hearing personal stories of those who have been helped by the mentoring service was inspirational and has made me more committed than ever to help our Armed Forces and their families. I am really keen to learn more about what it takes to become a mentor.”
Lieutenant General Sir Andrew Gregory KBE CB, Controller/CEO SSAFA, also attended the event and said “CarillionAmey are one of our key corporate partners. We are very proud of our relationship with them, which has raised almost £165,000 to date helping to fund our national mentoring service for wounded, injured and sick personnel. As much as to the employees of CarillionAmey, we owe our thanks to their supply chain and we look forward to many more years of working together.”
